Schedule & Streams

Where are you on your Balboa journey?

Explorer Stream

Ready to explore, having fun with the fundamentals?

  • Perfect for those with some Balboa experience wishing to progress to the next level
  • A useful refresher for those returning to Balboa after a break
  • An opportunity for more experienced Balboa dancers to improve their underlying technique

Adventurer Stream

You are looking for an adventure, exploring musicality, enhancing technique, as well as discovering new moves and stylings.

You will be confident in intermediate and above level workshops, having danced Balboa regularly for at least 2 years. You will be able to confidently lead/follow a wide range of moves on the social dance floor, including throw outs from many different positions, out and ins, lollies, swivels, Texas Tommy. You will be comfortable social dancing to a wide range of tempos, totally in your stride at 220 bpm, adding spice with your own variations…

Trail-finder Stream

You are now beginning to build your own path, seeking out new and innovative movement and stylings.

This stream will be less oriented towards moves, variations and instructor-led musicality. Instead, classes will more likely focus on flow, musical connection, and developing your own individual style. Partner conversation is likely to include tools to help leads to listen and be inspired by the follow, and to help follows find their voice as an active partner in the dance.

This stream will require an experience-check at the start of the first class.

In addition to the experience required for the "Adventurer" stream you will …

  • dance confidently to tracks above 220bpm with care and attention to your partner
  • have a clear understanding of partnering skills required
  • use “stretch & release” (not arms) for lead/follow connection
  • be actively honing your own basics, and enhancing your partnering technique, for better flow and connection at all tempos
  • be developing your own style
  • be likely to have at least 5 years plus Balboa experience
